When it comes to being painful, upper back pain is the just like neck pains and lower back pains. The most common reason for pain in the upper portion of our backs is injury or a strain. Pain in the upper portion of the back can cause significant discomfort and needs to be treated carefully. To treat upper back pain, one needs to identify the exact cause.

The most common causes of upper back pain are joint malfunction and muscular irritation. Also, injuries or poor posture can cause back pains. Sitting in one posture for too long can make anyone prone to back pain.

If you lack in activity or have weak muscles, then it's possible for you to have back pain and you can treat it through massages or physical therapy. Injuries or strains in the joints between the ribs can also cause severe upper back pains. What you can do is try to do some exercises that aims at muscle strengthening and loosening the back. Osteoporosis or any form of injury that's similar to a rupture in the spinal disk or weak bones can also result in back pain. Other diseases that can cause upper back pain includes heart disease. To avoid complexities, a specialist needs to be consulted.

If your back pain is caused by Osteoporosis or a ruptured disk, then getting proper medical treatment is important. An effective remedial action for those whose pain is caused by poor posture or a strain is massaging the area. You can rectify the pain in the triangle shaped muscles (Trapezius) of the upper back through massages. Improving your posture and sitting straight can also be helpful.

With proper exercises, posture can be improved and rectified. Using acupuncture techniques and proper massages by a physical therapist can also relieve pain in the upper portion of the back.
